Growing natives from seed is a great way to produce a lot of plants inexpensively and to protect the genetic diversity of our Maine native plants – and fall is a great time to sow native seeds!
The seeds of native plants have different germination requirements from the seeds of our common garden and vegetable plants. In this workshop, you will get hands-on experience in native plant propagation, from germination techniques to seed collection and storing procedures.
We will work with wildflowers, ferns, shrubs, and trees with an emphasis on outdoor seed sowing in pots or growing beds.
Each participant will go home wth at least 4 planted pots to overwinter outdoors – just like in nature!
