June 21 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Local botanist, photographer, and educator Wanda Garland will present “Summer Wildflowers in Maine,” on Wednesday, June 21, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., at Camden Public Library as part of Quarry Hill’s Adventures in Living Well series for adults age 50 and better. The event is cosponsored by Camden Public Library.
Garland’s colorful slides depicting wild blooms in all their glory will be the centerpiece of the educational program. As a counterpoint, Garland will offer insights into the many surprising ways Maine’s wildflowers have been used for food, medicine, and fiber.
Growing up on a dairy farm in Aroostook County in the 1940s and 1950s, Garland learned from her parents how to identify the flowers and trees growing in the woods and fields around their home. “We were so connected,” she recalls. “Our lives followed the flow of seasons.”
