Spring has sprung folks. Peepers are out, loons are back, and we have a 2019 Ice-Out Contest winner. A stiff northwest breeze last Tuesday chewed up the remaining ice on Megunticook Lake and Ice-Out was declared at 4:30 PM, April 16th.

Aaaannnd the winner is? Meredith Strang Burgess, with a guess of April 16 at 4:00 PM. Meredith, who has spent summers on the lake her whole life, was asked what her secret was to her winning date and time. “My secret is April 16 is my mom’s birthday and she always entered us every year. She won a bunch of times over the past 65 years! She died in November of 2015. I always used to pick my birthday (April 27) and I think I won once but I now use her birthday.”

Congratulations Meredith, you have won a $100.oo gift Certificate to Maine Sport and a year’s subscription to the Camden Herald. Our second place winner, Joe Libby, guessed April 17. He has won a $50.00 gift certificate to Viking Lumber.

Thanks to all the participants and now it’s time to get get crackin’ on those outdoor chores so we can enjoy the Watershed when nice weather arrives.
